Press Release July 2004 Project News Maine Registration Principal, Roy Ward, AIA, is pleased to announce that we have obtained registration to practice architecture in the State of Maine. We add Maine to our current registrations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. New Employees EHD has grown to 6 employees. New additions to our staff include Julie Baehre hired in March of 2003 as an intern architect, and Tyson Dorman hired in May of 2004 also hired as an intern architect. Visit our Team link for more information. Newport Area Family Services Center In response to the growing need for daycare, EHD, in conjunction with NCIC, will begin design on this important project this year. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2005. The project will provide services for 80 pre-school aged children. IROC (Indoor Recreation of Orleans County) Thought to be a dream by some, this project has received funding and is currently under construction. EHD has been working with the IROC board since 1998 and is providing construction administration services on this 50,000 square foot multi-sport facility scheduled to open in October of 2004. Lyndon State College We are pleased to announce that EHD continues its relationship with LSC. To date we have completed three projects and are in the process of completing two additional projects this summer. Our work includes renovations to the Physics Lab, Water Lab, Air Lab, office renovations and other improvements in the Activities Building. White Mountain Athletic Facility EHD originally provided a facility accessibility assessment for the building located in the heart of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. We have been retained to implement the work indicated in the assessment which will include construction of an elevator, lobby improvements, circulation renovations and alterations to some of the sport areas. Barre Town Garage After working with the Town of Barre for several years, EHD was able to join the members of the DPW and Town officials in celebrating the grand opening of their new facility in the Wilson Industrial Park in Websterville, Vermont. The project included converting the existing 40 year old facility into vehicle storage and locker/lunchroom/shower area for the staff and the complete remodel of an existing 13,600 square foot granite manufacturing plant into a maintenance facility. Norwich University EHD has been retained by NU to provide services for several on-campus and off-campus buildings including renovations to Crawford Hall Dormitory, Milan Ballroom Entry and walkway, Alumni Hall Dormitory and the Northfield Armory. Newport Town School This school was originally constructed in 1978 as an addition to the original Town Hall constructed in 1955. EHD has provided a Facility Assessment and is currently working with the School Board, Facilities Committee, the DOE and Dept of Labor and Industry to prepare a facility renovation plan for a fall bond vote. Derby Line Fire Station EHD was retained by the Town of Derby to design a new 4 bay fire station to replace the former station housed in a converted school house. Structural modifications made to the school house to accommodate fire apparatus reduced the buildings life span and made salvage impractical. The new station started construction in the summer of 2004. Lyndon Public Safety Building Once the Town of Lyndon’s fire department, housed in rental space owned by the local utility company, was damaged by fire it became clear that the need for a new station was imminent. EHD provided several options and schemes for the site. The approved scheme, scheduled for completion in late 2004 includes a 4-bay fire station, training facility and space for the local police department. Reed Court EHD was asked to assist in the design and construction of this 24 unit townhouse style condominium project. Elegantly arranged around a cul-de-sac in a residential neighborhood of Lebanon, NH, this 7 building development is mostly sold and will be completed in phases from July through November of 2004. Features include two story apartments with walk-out basements, sprinkler systems and enclosed, attached garages. Velco Continuing our on-going relationship, EHD is pleased to design several facilities for service and storage at various sites and locations throughout Vermont. Buildings range from maintenance/storage/office facilities to open storage sheds for equipment. New England Cattle Company Restaurant The new owners of a run-down apartment building in downtown Lancaster approached EHD with a vision to provide an upscale restaurant in town using local beef and food products. EHD worked with them and local officials to develop a plan for the building that would allow improvements to be phased thereby allowing the owners to open the restaurant and generate income for the remainder of the renovations. Austin Maintenance Company This bridge construction contractor retained EHD to provide the design and permit documents for a new 7,000 square foot office and garage facility for their company. This local family owned business will operate out of its new location in Concord, Vermont in 2005. Thetford Elementary School The new additions and renovation for this 30,000 square foot facility was completed in the spring of 2004. Final installation of the stage will be completed by the school and community. Upper Valley Supportive Housing This project included five buildings in two towns on three sites: Anne’s Place, Spencer Street and Mount Support Road. The work was successfully completed in mid-2003. The project provided 20 units of affordable, subsidized housing for families and individuals in transition. Coos County Family Health Services EHD continues to provide service for the folks at CCFHS in Berlin, NH. Most recently, we provided design services for the renovation of the former Mountain Health facility. Back to News |
