Press Release April 2002 Project News Thetford Elementary School In December of 2001, the community of Thetford, Vermont approved a 3.1 million-dollar bond vote to construct additions and renovations to the Thetford Elementary School. EHDanson Associates assisted the school in the pre-bond design process and has been selected to provide design and construction phase services for this important community project. The work includes additions for a new multipurpose room/gymnasium, art classroom, mechanical room and kitchen/storage facilities. It also includes extensive renovations to the original 1961 wing, the 1976 wing and major improvements to the water supply, electrical service and mechanical systems. Twinfield Early Care and Education Center EHDanson Associates was selected to provide architectural services for the new Twinfield Early Care and Education Center addition to the existing Twinfield Union School in Marshfield, Vermont. The 7,000 square foot building will house classrooms, administrative space and gross motor spaces for approximately 40 children ages 3 to 5. The project is a much needed facility and is being supported by the Central Vermont Community Action Council and the local School District. Upper Valley Supportive Housing Bidding for this project is expected to begin in April of 2002. The project, located in Lebanon and Enfield, New Hampshire, includes 3 new buildings, a renovation and a historic adaptive reuse on three different sites in two towns! The final result will be 20 units of supportive transitional housing added to the Upper Valley Area. EHD is working with Twin Pines Housing Trust, New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority and a private developer to complete the project. Richford Wheeler Block EHD was selected to provide design and construction phase services for this important historic building in Richford, Vermonts historic district. The three-story building has a rich and full past including use as an auto dealership, grocery store, bakery and hair salon. Many of the historic elements remain and will be showcased as the building renovation progresses over many phases. Crossbill LLC Wanting to return something to his former alma mater, a private developer is working with Lyndon State College to construct 120 units of dormitory style apartments on a hillside overlooking Burke Mountain adjacent to the college. EHD is providing permitting and site planning services as well as providing the preliminary design for the five housing buildings and the single common building. Site planning issues are critical in order to satisfy the many criteria of Act 250 and the local planning and zoning board. EHD, working with the Owner and various agencies, has developed a plan sensitive to the many and varied needs of the community. Littleton Area Learning Center Formerly known as the Littleton Coin Building, this 26,000 square foot structure is now the home for the NH Department of Employment Security, College for Lifelong Learning, New Hampshire Community Technical College, North Country Health Consortium/AHEC, Supervisory Administrative Unit #35 and other education based tenants. Working with the Littleton Industrial Development Corporation in cooperation with Northern Communities Investment Corp (NCIC), EHD provided design and construction phase services to fit all of these tenants into the building as well as coordinating the multiple improvements to the buildings infrastructure. NEK Daycare To meet the growing need for daycare in the Newport area, NCIC is working with Central Vermont Community Action Council, NEK Community Action and Head Start to design and construct a new daycare facility in the Newport Industrial Park. EHD assisted in coordinating the various requirements of the many agencies and consolidating them into a workable and exciting building. Once funding is complete, EHD will provide design and construction phase services for this important community project. Coos County Response Shelter and WIC Clinic After moving its Medical Arts Facility to Pleasant Street in Berlin, NH in 1998, Coos County Family Health Services has been utilizing their Willow Street office for administrative and day clinic functions. The project proposes to renovate the Willow Street offices to include an apartment for its Response Shelter Program, improvements for its WIC Clinic and administrative functions. IROC (Indoor Recreation of Orleans County) The IROC Board of Directors has completed the next phase of construction of the 44,800 square foot pre-engineered metal building erected by Spates Construction of Derby, Vermont. The building, when completed hopefully in the fall/spring of 2002/2003, will include a competition size pool, fully equipped fitness center, snack bar, community room, educational facilities and 28,000 square feet of multi-sport activity space for activities such as basketball, in-line hockey, soccer and tennis. Lahout Glen Apartments EHD worked closely with the Owner and State Fire Marshals Office to provide a limited set of documents and a thorough code analysis for the purpose of obtaining a construction permit. The 12-unit apartment complex located in Littleton, NH includes moderate-income two bedroom apartments which include in-apt laundry connections and tenant storage lockers. Chalet Restaurant After a fire that consumed the former Chalet Restaurant in Woodstock, NH, EHD was contacted to assist the Owner in the permitting process. Working with the NH State Fire Marshals Office, EHD prepared a complete code analysis and a minimal set of design documents for review and approval.
