King George School
Sutton, Vermont

When we first visited this 130 acre site and walked through the working dairy farm, we knew it would be quite a project to convert the manure troughs and cow pens into student areas. With some creative structural revisions and careful space planning we were able to transform this existing working farm into a private boarding school for 100 pupils.

The farm’s primary 17,000 SF barn was completely renovated to house all of the educational and service facilities for the school. In addition, it now contains classrooms, dance studio, cafeteria/kitchen, library, theater, music and art studios.

The space is enhanced by the removal of some of the hay loft floors and adding dormers to provide natural light. The client was looking to maintain the farm appearance for the campus complete with the existing silos and hay loft doors. Several dormitories were also designed for both boys and girls campuses.
